“You have to know the rules before you can break them.” As a kid, this quote was always a puzzle for me, growing up in a law enforcement family. No one ever talked about breaking the rules as a desirable thing. Now I realize that this saying is more about learning structure, before you can operate within that structure in an effortless way. Moving from head to heart. From thinking to being. From control to flow. This is the story of my life.
I happen to be very comfortable in my head (thank you very much), as my trainer pointed out to me in today’s lesson. Yes, it is important to get the body mechanics correct, and learn the proper sequence of cues. But just as important is developing the ability to step away from overthinking each move and being able to feel the connection and the flow. For me, not a natural born equestrian, that is the process I have needed to go through over and over. Others, who are natural equestrians, start at the feeling stage, and have to reverse-engineer to figure out the process. The advantage for me is that being clear on and being able to articulate the process allows it to be replicated and taught. How many of us have met brilliant equestrians who struggle to explain how they accomplish that brilliance?
Segue into another of my passions, which very much overlaps with my love of horses: energy healing. Some people are born natural healers and can perform amazing feats. Others, such as myself, had to learn how by studying things like energy anatomy, principles, theory and protocols. And then, after we master the process, we find we then need to practice getting out of our own way, and flow with it. The advantage for me is that being clear on and being able to articulate the process allows it to be replicated and taught. How many of us have met brilliant healers who struggle to explain how they accomplish that brilliance?
Join me for a mini-clinic on Energy Healing for Horses, and develop skills you thought you didn’t have. Anyone can learn how to use energy healing to help your horse maintain wellness and accelerate healing. No special tools or skills required. Please check calendar and RSVP for location.
